Dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt on July 3, 1938, 75 years after the battle, the Eternal Peace Light was erected as a national sign of unity.  Its dedication saw 250,000 attendees, with 1,800 being veterans.  This pitcher is a souvenir for an onlooker in years to follow.  The makers’ stamp on the bottom, Fondville Gray’s Pottery, dates the item to the 1950s. While the item is not a direct result of the initial dedication, it shows that in the proceeding years the monument, and its significance, are still just as important.

The pitcher is glazed earthenware with a blue rim.  It measures approximately 4 ½” tall and 2 7/8” in diameter at the base.  On the bottom is the maker’s stamp that reads “FONDEVILLE/ GRAY’S POTTERY/ MADE IN STAFORDSHIRE/ ENGLAND.” Fondeville was an American retailer prominent in the 1950s.  The pitcher is in good condition, no chips or cracks.    [mk]  [ph:L]
