Platter meas. approx. 12 ¾  x 9 ¼  x 1 ¼  inches with a recessed center and a 1 ½  inch wide edge.

The edge is decorated with a beautiful rendition of an oak leave branch with acorns. Amongst the oak leaves are four laurel wreath medallions. One at top and bottom center and one on each side. The top medallion bears a bust image of Major General George G. Meade while across from him is Major General Winfield S. Hancock. The right-side medallion bears a bust of General Robert E. Lee while opposite him is Lieutenant General James Longstreet.

The recessed center of the plate has an exciting battle scene of Pickett’s Charge depicting the moment the Confederates breeched the stone wall near Cushing’s Battery. Men are seen rushing to the wall in support of the Union forces as the Confederates begin to surge over it. Lines of battle move in the background amongst exploding caissons and shell bursts which add their smoke to that which already hangs over the scene.

The back of the platter is plain white with a very nice mark done in blue of a spread-winged eagle and shield. The eagle holds an E PLURIBUS UNUM riband in his beak above the title “PICKETT’S CHARGE-GETTYSBURG.”

Plate is in excellent condition with a small chip to the edge of the platter to the upper right near General Longstreet. No other detracting marks noted. [ad/cla] [ph:L]
