Seated view of a young soldier in the uniform of the 95th Pennsylvania also known as “Gosline’s Zouaves.”

The subject wears the trademark coat and vest of Gosline’s Zouaves with light trousers. His coat bears the Veteran Volunteer stripes on each sleeve. On the table next to him is his forage cap with a clearly visible 6th Corps badge with a Company letter “H” at center over the number “95.”

Image is very clear and clean with good contrast. Image is housed in a brass hinged union case that is in excellent condition. The glass and mat over the image is good but the stamped brass frame is made up of pieces but this is hard to tell without removing the photo from the case.

Very attractive item that displays well.

Gosline’s Zouaves served predominately with the 6th Corps Army of the Potomac. It was organized in Philadelphia in October of 1861 and saw action on the Peninsula and at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Cedar Creek, Hatcher’s Run and Sailor’s Creek. The regiment lost 255 officers and men killed in action and died of wounds and disease, not to mention many more wounded.  [AD] [ph:L]
