FIRST CORPS HEADQUARTERS BADGE

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1179-635

Circular badge with T-bar pin fastener in place on the reverse. The face is filled with red, white and blue enamel or paint in a pinwheel fashion, in good condition. The silvered frame and dividers show scratches and wear. Use of all three divisional colors indicates duty at the corps level, i.e. headquarters, but members of the corps artillery were permitted to wear it as well. The badge was adopted in March 1863 and used for a time even after the consolidation of the First with the Fifth Corps in 1864, eventually leading to a combined circle and Maltese cross for the old First Corps units. This comes from displays in the Texas Civil War Museum and may be a veteran’s or “post period” piece.   [sr] [ph:m]
