This is a very nice condition buff leather sword belt. The exterior leather surfaces are clean and in excellent condition. The leather is strong and supple with no weak spots. Both the sword hangers are present and match condition perfectly. All brass hardware is present as well. The interior surface of the leather shows some light wear.

The shoulder support strap (Sam Brown belt) is also present but is of bridle leather and shows significantly more wear; likely added.

The belt plate is the Pattern 1851 NCO plate with applied German silver wreath. The front of this plate was once painted over gold, so the silver wreath appears mostly gold. The keeper and plate have matching bench marks “66”.

This item is a fine example of a Civil War sword-belt. [jet] [ph:L]
