Leather cartridge box is the Pattern 1864 pattern with the embossed “US” that has had a 1839 oval “US” cartridge box plate attached. Outer flap has light surface crazing with a latch tab that is attached by straight line stitching and a copper rivet. Box plate is held by a strip of rawhide and has a face that is mostly covered in dark oxidation.
Interior flap is in nice shape and is complete with both ears. There is a Newark maker’s mark in an elongated oval on the flap edge but the name cannot be read. Both tins are present inside the box as is the implement pocket. Body of the box is in good condition. Bottom has both roller buckles and pear shaped finial.
Reverse of the box has both the sling and belt loops.
Sling is attached to the box and is full length. There is no sling plate nor are there any slits for one. Sling is solid but does have moderate to heavy surface finish loss. [ad]
