The subject of this image is identified as George W. Fish but no regiment or state is given.

The subject is posed seated holding a kepi in his lap the cap is made of dark cloth with a light band running around the base of the crown and in the recess of the disc. There is piping of the same color running vertically on the front, back and sides. The subject also wears a dark single-breasted frock coat with three-piece buttons, matching dark vest and dark trousers.

Contrast and clarity are very good. Mount and paper have scattered surface dirt and there is a faint crease running across the subject’s chest. Lower right corner of the paper has some light scratches.

Reverse has no photographer’s imprint. There is an inscription in period blue ink that reads “PRESENTED TO MISS CLARA HOLMES BY GEO. W. FISH HAREWOOD HOSPITAL WASHINGTON, D.C. FORGET ME NOT WHILE I REMAIN IN DIXIE.” [ad][ph:L]
