[See Echoes of Glory, Arms and Equipment of the Union, p. 167]. Made of blue wool, with four side-earflaps, buttoned and trimmed, with circular, trimmed top knot, and linen chin straps. Wool contains a dozen or so small, unobtrusive moth nips; gold trim has faded with age to color beige. Chin strap broken, but present. Else VG.
This cap was standard fatigue headgear for CW Union bluejackets, and is extremely scarce, especially in this kind of condition. A must for serious naval uniform collectors.
