Invented by James Kerr, a founding member of the London Armoury Company, which was established in 1856! The revolver is a large bore, approx. .44 cal., and has a 5 slot cylinder. The revolver is a single action mechanism. Between their introduction in 1859 and the beginning of the American Civil War in 1861 only 1000 – 1500 of these revolvers were sold. With the outbreak of the Civil War, Caleb Huse engaged the production of all the revolvers they could produce for the Confederacy. Approximately 9,000 revolvers were produced and shipped during that time. This revolver serial number 9567 places it in a list of in the range between #9240 and #9974, the revolvers issued to members of Lt. Julian Pratt’s Co. H, 18th Virginia Cavalry. The other Confederate sign of usage is the well documented “JS / Anchor” located on the underside of the checkered walnut grip. This example shows the stamp upside down from what we normally see. We have consulted several other experts about this and it is something seen previously.

Mechanically perfect. The metal has some very light “pepper” pitting near the top strap and rear of the barrel. All markings are very good. The tang screw is broken off – could be replaced. Color is a gun metal gray with some areas darker.

Priced to sell.
