The guidon is housed in a modern wood frame that measures 35 ¾” wide x 31 ¾” tall. The guidon is laid against a cream-colored material backing that really allows the guidon to stand out.

Overall about 90% of the flag remains. Silk does not age well and over time its own weight causes stress separations and material lost. This guidon shows its age but despite that, the colors remain strong and it remains quite attractive.

The actual dimensions of the guidon itself are 30” x 27” but these measurements are approximate. On the body of the flag all 13 stripes remain. There are scattered splits throughout the silk but most of the material loss is along the bottom, red, stripe. The ends of both swallow tail tips are also missing.

The canton measures approximately 14” x 15” and makes a wonderful highlight for this guidon. The field is a rich blue with 35 painted stars. The canton is nearly complete. There is only a single star that shows moderate damage. The other stars remain in very good condition. The pattern of the stars is a pleasing arrangement of two concentric rings with one in each corner.

Mounted on a wall this piece would enhance any Civil War collection.  [jet]
