The body of this shell is in good cleaned condition with only light surface pitting scattered throughout. The body has 6 raised vertical inclined flanges to fit the bore of the Blakely rifle which fired this particular round. The base of the shell is flat with no sabot. In the nose is a Britten percussion fuse that looks to be a replacement. There is no area of recovery listed but most shells of this pattern and size have been recovered at Port Hudson.
This is a rare and seldom encountered shell.
