The body of this shell is in good cleaned condition with a smooth surface. The base of the shell is covered by a lead cup sabot. The sabot has 7 lands and grooves from having been fired. In the nose is a Britten percussion fuse. The base was drilled out to deactivate the shell. This hole initiated a crack that runs up the whole side of the shell from the bottom to just below the fuse hole. The crack is slightly opened at the bottom but is closed toward the top.
This shell was meant for use in the 12 pound Blakely rifle.
The area of recovery for this piece was Spanish Fort, Alabama.
