The Southern Historical Society was an organization founded by Confederate Major General Dabney H. Maury in 1868-1869 that documented Southern military and civilian viewpoints from the Civil War. These were compiled into the Southern Historical Society "Papers". They were published in the late 19th Century, comprising 52 volumes of articles written by Southern soldiers, officers, politicians, and civilians.
This series of papers was the breeding ground from which sprang the Gettysburg Longstreet controversy. Of course that is just one of the many, many topics covered by this set. [ad]
