The full title of this hardcover volume reads “AMERICAN BASTILE. A HISTORY OF THE ILLEGAL ARRESTS AND IMPRISONMENT OF AMERICAN CITIZENS DURING THE LATE CIVIL WAR” by John A. Marshall. Title was published by Thomas W. Hartley of Philadelphia in 1870.
Volume meas. approx. 6.50 x 9.25 inches and runs 728 pages with no index. There are several black & white illustrations.
Green cloth covers show light edge wear. Title is embossed in gold on the spine. Front cover is embossed with a spread-winged eagle perched on a shield.
Over all condition is good. Binding is a bit wobbly. Pages have browned a bit from age.
