Clear bottle has a gray tint. It shows an applied lip and pontil scar. Embossing reads, "NORWOOD'S TINCT. V. VIRIDE".
Bottle measures 5" tall by 2.25" wide. No chips or cracks.
Dr. Wesley Calhoun Norwood was born in 1806 and graduated from medical college in 1830. He set up practice in Cokesbury, SC. He became famous when he published a paper in the Southern Medical & Surgical Journal extolling the virtues of veratrum viride. In the early 1850's he formed a contract with the Mount Lebanon, NY Shaker community to produce and market his tincture. [sl]
