Excavated coat-sized button with a face that consists of a large block letter “I” on a plain field with border. Intended for Confederate infantry. The back features a depressed channel with the backmark, “E.M.L & C. RICHMOND. VA.” The shank is missing. The entire button is a pleasing chocolate brown color and the surface is smooth. Face is free of dings and dents. The place of recovery is not known. Reference: Albert CS181A, Tice CSI240A1. [jet]
