This artifact is a fine, non-excavated example of a three-piece brass cuff button as worn on Michigan militia uniforms. This staff button is of three-piece construction with a wide outer ring border. Face and back very good with most of the original gilt on the face. Face appears to have been cleaned with polish at one time and residual cleaner is visible in the protected crevices. Button very good and is classed as a MG205As9 in Tice’s reference volume. The circular, 15-mm brass device exhibits a state seal at the center of the face with a shield device flanked by an elk and a moose. Shield is blank. Back side exhibits traces of cleaning residue and has a shank that is strong and tight. Backmark of *EXTRA QUALITY*. This State of Michigan general use, low convex uniform cuff button is a fine collectible for any Civil War button display or Wisconsin-focused collection.
