Two-piece medal has a brass top hangar in the shape of an eagle. Reverse retains original pin. Suspended from this is a medal with a raised image of General Robert Edward Lee. Above the image is lettering which reads “GENERAL R.E. LEE”. Reverse has a raised image of Lee on his horse, Traveller, and lettering which reads, “LAYING OF CORNERSTONE OF R.E. LEE MONUMENT, RICHMOND, VA, OCTOBER 27, 1887”. Patina is semi-bright on both hangar and medal, with some darkened areas. Housed in an attractive display box. [sl]
