Dated “21 March, 1863, at Columbus (Miss.). Preprinted form, 8 x 9.75”. Signed by J.M. Randall, surgeon/ 3rd Batt. Miss. State Troops/ Thos. A. Bureis/ Lt. Col. commdg.” With endorsements, referred to Brig. Genl. J.V. Harris (Miss. Militia general). Exhibits fold-marks; ink lightly splotchy in spots, while remaining entirely legible. Else VG.
Certificate states that “J. Edge a Confederate, born in Jones County, GA., age 36, 5’8” high, ruddy complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair, by occupation an Overseer, has been unfit for duty “all the time” due to consequence of an affection of the chest & spine & an injury by a fall in November last, since he has been unfit for duty, at Columbus, Miss., dated March 5, by W.W. Calmes, Capt. Commanding company.
Confederate certificates of disability can be scarce, especially in this condition. Solid collectible. Invites further research, in protective sleeve. [jp]
