This pre-printed document is filled out in period ink and was issued in 1866. The document awards land to Corporal Garret Durland for service in Captain Wood’s Company of the New York Militia. The tract of land referred to in the document was located in Clark, Wisconsin and was transferred by Durland to a William Lansing who in turn assigned the land to a Joseph Flick.

The document meas. approx. 15.00 x 10.00 and is headed by a waving US flag and the heading “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The document is signed in two places with President Andrew Johnson’s name, however, these are not signatures done by Johnson but by one of his secretaries. The document is in good readable condition and still retains its seal in the lower left corner. It has one vertical and two horizontal fold lines, otherwise it is bright and clean. The item comes framed with an 8.00 x 10.00 inch lithograph of President Johnson.

The modern frame housing the two pieces meas. approx. 31.00 x 17.50 inches. The wood of the frame is a bluish gray with a thin double gold border and a gray mat. The item is ready for hanging. Paper backing has some light wear.

Records show that Garret Durland served in an independent battalion commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Johnathan Varian during 1814.  [ad]

Modern frame contains plexiglass. Extra shipping charge required: $35.00 insured UPS east of the Mississippi, $50.00 west of the Mississippi.
