Beige certificate, adorned w/ battle vignettes, measuring 17 X 13.5”, trimmed in gilt, w/gray matte, in black metal frame, 20.25 x 16”. Exhibits three very minor tears, and slight chipping of matte edges. Else VG, and handsome.
Scroll lists each of Porter’s promotions from Midshipman [1829], through Rear Admiral [1863], Vice Admiral [1866], and Admiral [1870; noting that he was still an Admiral in service at date of issuance—June 8, 1889.
Excellent naval piece, attractive G.A.R. collectible. [jp]
