Upper left corner has a CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA 10 cent stamp with bust of Jeff Davis at center. Post mark around the stamp reads “NEW MARKET” with a smudged date that looks to be OCT 16 or 26.
The envelope is in good overall condition.
Mrs. William M. Blackford, whose first name was Mary, was the mother of five sons who all fought for the Confederacy and her brother was Commanding Officer of the Confederate Naval Hospital at Portsmouth, Virginia. [ad]
