This is an absolutely stunning, and likely unique, original Civil War recruiting broadside from the 104th New York Infantry regiment ("Wadsworth Guards"). The regiment was mustered into service for 3 years between September, 1861 and March, 1862. Company F was recruited at Rochester, first serving in General Wadsworth's command in the Military District of Washington.
The regiment was one of the most decorated in the War, having fought at Cedar Mountain, Rappahannock Station, Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and was heavily engaged at Gettysburg, losing 194 in killed, wounded and missing. It also took part in all the bloody battles of the Wilderness Campaign, losing heavily at Spotsylvania and Petersburg. It was mustered out under Col. John Strang on July 17, 1865. Strang is actually named on this broadside as the commander when they first mustered into service.
The broadside has been restored to its original state and is preserved in a beautiful archival custom frame, measuring 30 1/2" x 36 1/2".
