Requisition is for “1 sett of spreaders & stretchers.” Rendered by the following circumstances: “The sett of spreaders & stretchers belonging to the wagon now with my Company, having been stolen from the wagon on the night of December 13inst…Saml J.L. Moore, Comp. I, 2nd Va Vols.”
Capt Wm. Miller a.g.m CSA will issues the articles specified in the above requisition. Signed by Turner Ashby.
Received at Martinsburg 14 December 1861, of Capt. Wm Miller Assistant QM, CSA, one set of spreaders in full of the above requisition. Saml. J.L. Moore Comdg. Co. J. 2nd Va Vols.”
Brigadier General turner Ashby was the brilliant and charismatic commander of Stonewall Jackson’ cavalry during the latter’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Killed in action, June 6th, 1862.
