Text: “For use of Capt. Mason’s co. one pistol holster…rendered by the following circumstances: “That one of my men is unprovided with a pistol holster / Sturgis Davis Comdg.”

Captain Wm Miller Asst. QM C.S. Army will issue the articles in the above requisition. Signed by “Turner Ashby,” Commanding. Received at Martinsburg the 5th of March, 1862, of “Capt Wm. Miller”…One pistol holster in full of the above requisition. “Sturgis Davis.”

Brigadier General Turner Ashby was the brilliant and charismatic commander of Stonewall Jackson’s cavalry during the latter’s 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Killed in action, June 6th, 1862.

Ashby wartime signatures are scarce. Superb Confederate collectible. [jp] [ph:L]
