This bayonet and scabbard is in overall nice condition.
The blade is nice with a semi-bright appearance and looks to have been parkerized. It meas. approx. 16.75 inches long with a single fuller that starts just above the ricasso and runs approx. 12.50 inches. The edge is in good condition with no visible nicks. The ricasso is blued and marked on one side with “1917” over “REMINGTON” in a circle. The opposite side has an eagle head above a number “14” next to a bursting bomb over a “U.S.” followed by an “x” The iron guard is blued with an “O” ring for fitting over the rifle’s muzzle. The wooden grip is the usual with two screws and two horizontal notches and is in good condition. Button latch operated properly.
The scabbard is made of leather and is black. It exhibits some light wear but is in otherwise in excellent condition. The pronounced seam running down the back is strong. Finial and throat appear to be of iron. On the front of the throat is a button for attaching to a leather frog. Back side of the throat has a small mark of “W.J.H.” over the letter “B” which is over an unreadable number. The front of the finial has the complete mark of “W.J.H.” over “B” over “M/121.” [ad]
