For use on the British Pattern 1853, .577 caliber Enfield rifle. This bayonet features a triangular, tapered blade with fullers on each of the three sides. The blade is attached to a socket. Measures nearly 21” long overall with a 17 ¼” blade and a 3” socket. Socket retains its locking ring.
This specimen was imported through the blockade into the Confederacy and upon receipt, was hand engraved with the number “532”. As part of a set, this bayonet and the musket it came with would have been engraved with the same number.
This piece is dark brown and the entire surface is pitted, however I do not believe it is a “dug” relic. The locking ring still spins and the engraved number is still clearly visible. It probably came out of a barn.
A rare example of a Confederate marked weapon brought into this country through the Federal blockade. [jet]
