This World War One U.S. version of the British Pattern 1913 bayonet was used on the “American Enfield,” designated the US Model 1917 rifle, an adaptation of the British 1914 Pattern rifle that was in production by U.S. firms for Britain and could be quickly supplied to American troops headed overseas.

The obverse ricasso has an ordnance bomb over a U.S. with the eagle head inspector stamp at left and large “X” at right. The reverse ricasso is stamped with a 1917 date over the Remington logo of a circle containing the firm name in an arc. The grips are superb, with good finish and color. The blade, guard, pommel and grip screws all have a pristine Parkerized green finish with just some rubbing along raised edges, such as the sides of the back edge. The scabbard is the olive drab second variation of the first type, showing just some rubbing along the raised seam on the reverse and browning to the steel mounts. There is some loss of detail in the Remington logo, so the Parkerized finish is likely due to a later rehabbing of the bayonet.  [sr]
