This item accompanied a Brown Bess 1790-1815 India pattern musket. Manufactured by the British East India Company, the India pattern Brown Bess and its accompanying bayonet would be come one of the foremost weapons to be used by the British empire in the early 19th century.
The blade from shoulder to tip measures 11”. The socket is 3 3/4” and has a notch on the lip with two corresponding holes. The entire bayonet has a dark brown patina. There are no clear maker’s marks stamped on the face of the blade. On the base of the socket the East India Company stamp is present; heart shaped emblem with V / I / C / E stamped clockwise. The 4 above the stamp is very faint as well as the ‘V’.
Overall, good condition and unique piece for any collector looking for early 19th century arms accoutrements. [MK] [ph:L]
