Maker mark: “D.J. Millard / Clayville [NY]”. Inspector mark: “U.S. / C.E.W. / 1862”. Clean, light gray blade measuring 34.75” in length, 1.125” in width at base. Smooth consistent patina, exhibiting slight traces of age and water spotting the entire length. One small .25” dented impression, within the central fuller, symmetrical, & present on both sides of the blade. Missing washer. Hilt assembly tight, central knuckle guard and outer branch slightly bent. Brass work exhibits pleasing medium coppery patina, with minor nicks & scratching. “F” stamping on knuckle guard near pommel, with inspector “C.E.W.” stamping on pommel cap.
Scabbard exhibits a smooth consistent plum patina with slight traces of light pitting. No dents or dings. Throat, carrying mounts & drag in good shape. Overall, VG and attractive. Very solid “Millard” specimen.
