Maker mark: “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass.” Inspector’s mark: “U.S. / J.T. / 1860”. Bright blade measures 35” in length, 1.125” in width at the base. Exhibits smooth consistent patina with a film of light moisture spotting running the entire length. Blade sharpened. No dings. Washer present. Hilt assembly tight and symmetrical. Brass handle displays dark coppery patina w/scratching and minor nicks. Original dark leather grips display minor wear. Wiring tight. “J.T.” inspector-mark & small star stamped on pommel. Scabbard exhibits smooth dark gray patina, w/handful of minor dents running down the obverse side from mid-point to drag, which bears “J.H.” inspector mark. Overall, a VG plus blade, and fine 1860-dated display piece.
