Maker-mark [obverse ricasso]: “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee/ Mass.” Bright blade, measuring 29” in length, 1.125” in width at base, with slight traces of moisture traces near tip. Standard naval blade with “USN” & anchor, etc., finely etched. Washer present, & in superb condition. Hilt assembly tight & symmetrical, bright gilt with sharp “USN” counter-guard marking, with the quillon terminating in a dolphin’s head. Grey fish skin grips with bright wire wrap, with gilt ferrule at base. Black leather scabbard with drag, carrying mount & throat. Leather exhibits light cracking, gilt mountings clean & bright. Ames Company marking present on throat. Overall condition near mint & highly attractive. Excellent collectible, & display piece.
