Rare Second Contract of 1799 cavalry saber manufactured by Abel Buell and David Greenleaf of Hartford, CT in 1799. Buell and Greenleaf made 1000 sabers of this pattern under contract with the US. Marked with “US” monogram and dated. Length overall 40”, blade length 34 ¼”. Original leather wrapped grip and double strand twisted wire. Iron stirrup hilt. Pommel cap integral with backstrap. All metal very fine! Red wood ricasso washer intact.

This rare saber is seldom seen in US edged weapons collections.  [ss]
