Gorham Silver Company with Collins & Co. blade dated 1862. Very beautiful heavy gilt on scabbard mounts, guard and pommel. Scabbard is marked on top mount Gorham & Co. / Providence, R.I. and the etched blade is stamped: Collins & Co. / Hartford / Conn. / 1862. These Gorham products are scarce. They are easily distinguished by the highest of quality in the chasing of guard decoration, pommel and scabbard mounts. There is a fine stippling on the band at the very top of the pommel. The grip is sharkskin with twisted brass wire. The blade etching has finely detailed decoration with a vertical U.S. The reverse has a spread winged Eagle holding 6 crossed American flags. The iron scabbard has a plum brown finish.
