This 1821 British pattern was made for the U.S. market during the Civil War. The sword has sheet brass scabbard with brass carry mounts and rings. The throat has graduated rings held by 2 screws, the drag is a brazed blade. The guard has the American Eagle with up swept wings over a cut out U.S. The entire guard is brass as is the integral pommel & backstrap. The blade has the inset PROVED disk and is marked W. / Clauberg with the standing Knight beneath and Solingen below. It is etched with large center panel design with the American Eagle on the obverse and U.S. in the panel on the reverse. The grip is sharkskin, wire wrapped with dragoon wire and two additional single strands.
