Overall the blade meas. approx. 26.00 inches long. It has an unstopped fuller that runs approx. 17.50 inches long. The blade is in very good condition with a surface that is bright with scattered light mottling. There is no pitting. True edge does have several small nicks. The obverse ricasso is marked five lines with an anchor “P,” “U.S.N., D.R., 1862” while the reverse ricasso has the Ames Manufacturing mark.
The grip is covered in black leather but there is no wire wrap. About 10% of the leather is missing along the seam. The brass basket and counterguard are good but are showing numerous scratches. Basket has one small dent.
The leather scabbard is in nice condition but is missing its tip. The surface of the leather shows some light wear but nothing that detracts. Leather is strong with no weak spots. Brass stud for attaching to frog is present.
