The drawn saber meas. approx. 41.00 inches from point to pommel. The blade meas. approx. 35.00 inches with a central fuller that is 27.75 inches long. The surface of the blade is bright but it does have a good bit of mottling, some light pitting and rub marks. The edge has several very small nicks. The obverse ricasso has a worn “U.S.” over inspector’s initials that are almost gone. The date “1863” at bottom is very strong. The reverse ricasso has a worn maker’s mark of “----- & SILVER TRENTON N.J.” Partial leather washer remains at the base of the blade.
The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather shows little wear and the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knuckle bow and counterguard have a mellow patina. Pommel cap has inspector’s initials of “TT?.”
Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is bright with tiny scattered spots of oxidation and no dents worth mentioning. Drag area has a tiny pinhead sized hole. [ad]
