This near mint short sword dates ca. 1840. It has a 19 1/2-inch-long tapering and perfectly polished double-edged blade that is about 2 inches wide were it meets the solid cast single piece brass hilt. The lion headed pommel is of exceptional quality with a lanyard ring through its mouth. The brass mounted leather scabbard is about excellent. An important sword of the kind used from the 1820s up to and including the Crimean War. [PE] [PH:L]
