Carbine sling swivels attached to the swivel ring on the carbine and to the leather strap worn over the shoulder. This prevent the carbine from being dropped or lost. These are surplus swivels that came from Bannerman Island. All are covered with light to moderate rust. Inside they are marked O.B.NORTH & CO / NEW HAVEN CT. They had contracts to supply 29,000 swivels between May of 1864 and June of 1865.
The example shown in the photographs may not be the item you receive but it will in approximately the same condition. Note that those we have remaining are frozen closed due to rust.
