This tompion has a cork body with a brass cap and base. Approx. 90% of the cork body remains. The brass cap and base have a nice dark patina.
A tompion was used by placing it in the muzzle of a musket or rifle to keep moisture and dampness out. The brass cap and base show that this tampion is meant for use with the Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle.
