The 1-inch Nordenfelt gun was an early rapid-firing light gun intended to defend larger warships against the new small fast-moving torpedo boats in the late 1870s to the early 1880s. The steel bullet is formed of hardened cast steel with a sharp-pointed head. A brass envelope is placed over the projectile for the purposes of a gas check and for rotating the bullet. The cartridge case is of solid drawn brass and is center primed.
This specimen of this rare cartridge is in excellent condition. The brass shows a mellow patina. [jet]
