This is the remains of the wrapper from a pack of ten musket cartridges. Measures approximately 4 ½” x 5”. Printed in the lower, left portion of the paper is “10 Cartridges / Cal 57 or 58 / Conical Ball / Richmond / Arsenal / 1863”. There are folds and some paper loss.
The Richmond Laboratory located on Brown’s Island manufactured millions of rounds of small arms ammunition during the Civil War. The cartridges from this pack were for use in the .577 caliber English Enfield rifle and .58 caliber American rifled musket. [jet]
