ORIGINAL OILER AND THREE-PIECE STEEL CLEANING ROD FOR THE U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL KRAG RIFLE OR CARBINE

$85.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-2585

The first rods for Krag carbines were two-piece. The three-piece rods were introduced in 1896 and the carrying compartment in the buttstock of the rifle and carbine were accordingly altered to carry the three-piece rod and an oiler. The rod is similar to the three-piece 1876 pattern, but with one slotted section and no swelled button head. These are original items, in very good surplus condition, and are essential “go withs” for the Krag. Adopted in 1892, that rifle saw action in Cuba, the Philippines, the Boxer Rebellion and several “little wars,” until officially replaced by the 1903 Springfield, but remained in the hands of some national guard units and rear echelon troops into World War One.  [SR] [PH:L]
