Here is a large, handsome martial powder flask made for a percussion pistol or longarm.  The name of ‘Batty’ is widely known in flask history since his “Peace” flask product enjoyed the longest run of manufacture of this type flask, covering 1847 to 1858.  This fine condition ‘Batty’ flask exhibits the conventional tear-shaped copper body that bears a military motif design.   Device measures 9¾” long and has a 4” wide swell.   Constructed of copper, flask is equipped with a plain screw-off flask top, brass collar, adjustable charger, thumb-piece cutter and loading rim.  Stampings visible on the top of the flask show “BATTY” / 1854”.  Seams are strong and show no evidence of splitting or repairs, save for one small (3/4” seam) break below top spring.  Top spring of the charging mechanism is broken and cutter is loose.

Flask decorated with a military design that shows a spread-winged eagle facing to his left perched upon arrows and olive branches.  Below this is a pair of clasped hands surrounded by an embossed oval of twenty stars. Directly below the stars is the military motif in panoply of flags, cannon, muskets and trumpets, all under a large shield device. A  single small brass swivel ring is  attached to each side of the flask’s upper neck. A dark, rich bronze patina envelopes the entire flask body and presents a pleasing and handsome appearance.  Shows one small areas of verdigris.  Flask body has one mild depression below the shield and shows just the normal amount of tiny dings from use and storage. Here is a fine martial ‘Batty’ Peace powder flask in excellent condition.
