Federal .52 caliber paper-wrapped Sharps paper cartridge used with the Sharps carbine or rifle. Made by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Co if Hartford, Connecticut, this cartridge is in excellent, unmarked condition. This .52 caliber cartridge has its cast bullet exposed with its accompanying powder charge still tightly encased within the original brown paper case. Lead head appears similar to the older ‘ringtail’ version of bullet. Paper is very good, clean and tight about the head. Paper strong and does show light scuffing marks. Tail is strong with no tears or perforations. A fine, seldom seen original example of a Civil War .52 caliber Sharps paper cartridge.
