MARTIALLY MARKED ROGERS & SPENCER REVOLVER IN EXCELLENT CONDITION

$2,895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-1673

Weapon is .44 with a 7.50 inch octagonal barrel and six-shot round cylinder, hinged type loading lever, full frame and walnut grips. The serial number, 72 matches throughout.

The octagonal barrel retains all its original blue. Muzzle has a small conical front sight. Under the barrel is an operating loading lever that still shows a small amount of case colors.

The frame retains its blue finish but it has thinned some with age. Frame is clearly stamped at top with “ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA N.Y. Frame screws are in excellent condition. The cylinder itself also retains its blue color and like the other surfaces it has worn thin in spots. All original nipples are present. There is a single thin wear ring on the cylinder from movement.

Hammer, like the loading lever shows hints of the case colors. Action is good.

Trigger guard and grip frame retain approx. 80% of the blue finish. Walnut grips show light wear but are otherwise very nice. Left side bottom has a crisp military inspector’s mark of “R.P.B.”

Approx. 5,800 of these weapons were made in 1865 with the US government taking delivery of 5,000, part in April and the rest in September of that year.  [ad][ph:L]
