Exceptional example of a standard issue 8mm Nambu Type 14 pistol made in 1939!  Principal markings include:  “58680” (serial number); characters shachi and nam (manufacturer); character sho and “14.3” (date of manufacture: “showa year 14.3” or March 1939); characters ju-yon-nen-shiki (model: “Year 14 Type”).

The condition is exceptional with 98% of the blue and straw remaining; really Like New and Unissued!  There is only one spot of minor holster edge wear on the right side.  The bore is perfect and perhaps only test rounds were fired through it. The pistol is fully functioning and all the serial numbers match (including the magazine)!

This example, made by Chou Kogyo, under the supervision of Nagoya Army Arsenal, was inventor Kijirō Nambu’s private company, located in the Kokubunji suburb of Tokyo.  The character shachi (kissing dolphins) is the symbol for Nagoya Army Arsenal and the character nam is the symbol for Chou Kogyo.  The company only made 17,499 Type 14 pistols in 1939.  The quality of workmanship and finish of prewar Chou Kogyo Type 14 pistols is superior to those made by the army.  This example also includes the uncommon small trigger guard variation; the change to the extended trigger guard (to accommodate gloves in winter) occurred in mid-1939.

Prewar Nambu pistols in this condition rarely come on the market.  Excellent opportunity to own a collector grade Japanese World War II service pistol made before Pearl Harbor – and before the manufacturing quality declined!  [sk]  [ph:L]

This is a very nice CDV photograph of Charles E. Crow in Confederate uniform. It appears to be a second-generation image; photo of an existing photo. Regardless, the picture is clear with good contrast. Crow wears a Confederate 2nd lieutenant's,… (1138-988). Learn More »
