From the Hopkins and Allen manufacturing center in Norwich, Connecticut comes this percussion cap and ball sidearm. Known as the ‘Dictator’ Model, this revolver is one of a total quantity of 1000 produced in Norwich from the late 1860s through the early 1870s. In very good overall condition, this sidearm is .36 caliber with a 5-shot, unfluted cylinder mated to a 3¾” long round barrel. Sidearm retains no original bluing. The plain, varnished walnut two-piece grips are in very good condition with just some minor dings and normal surface wear. Most varnish has worn off. Serial number “977” matches on barrel, loading lever, and wedge. Barrel address reads “HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG Co. NORWICH CT.” In mechanically very good condition, the revolver’s dark exterior shows scattered areas of light pitting and some oxidation marks. Screws are good save for the slightly buggered wedge screw. A seldom seen collectible in very good condition.
