No. 32 Standard 1875 pocket revolver with 3-inch round barrel and five shot fluted cylinder. Flip up front with removable cylinder. Top of barrel is marked “NO. 32 STANDARD 1875” and the side is marked “J. M. MARLIN. NEW HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. PAT. JULY 1, 1873.” Bird head shaped hard rubber grips have checkered surface with a star motif at top. Action works but does not hold half cock. Indexes properly. The nickel finish is heavily worn on the barrel and cylinder and has numerous small scratches where it remains. The underside of one of the rubber grips is scratched with “RLS, HIS GUN, USS CYANE.” Next to this is scratched a ship with three masts. Some research should be able to ID the owner. The USS Cyane was launched December 2, 1837. She served with the Navy during the War with Mexico. During the Civil War she operated on the West Coast of the United States. After the war she cruised the coasts of North and South America until she was placed in ordinary at Mare Island in 1871. She was sold at auction July 30 1887.
