The 1898 Model Kraig was manufactured by the Springfield Armory from 1898 through 1903. Approximately 330,000 were manufactured. All Kraigs are 30-40 caliber center fire. They are bolt action rifles that holds a magazine that holds 5 rounds that are loaded from a hinged loading gate.
On this particular example, all metal finishes are blued with the receiver case hardened. The receiver is marked U.S.MODEL 1898 and SPRINGFIELD ARMORY and the serial number is 301282. The stock has an inspector cartouche but the date is not readable. It has a 30 inch barrel that is plum brown in color. Has traces of original finish throughout. Bore is good and semi-bright. Very good condition stock. The rifle is all original and has not been modified in any way.
